Images from a trip we made to Scotland in August of 2008. We canoed the whole of Loch Ness in one day, and then drove to the beginning of the River Spey, and canoed out into the sea - it was brilliant!
These trips always have to start with a breakfast at the Rainbow Café in Bungay.
Loch Ness at 5 o'clock in the morning, after spending a night on the side of the road sleeping in the cars.
On Loch Ness. We tied the boats together with wooden poles, so we could have six in each boat - very sociable.
Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness. One of the more interesting things on the Loch, shame we saw that after 20 minutes, and after that, there ain't much else!
Loch Ness done, we now prepared to canoe the River Spey, raining outside, how better to relax, than play cards in the van - and when the sun comes out again, have a BBQ!
Day One of canoeing, and already we spot some Scottish Locals!
Day One, first campsite, such beautiful scenery
At the top of some rapids where we camped - the fast water was called The Dishwasher!! Very scary, Scott and Eli sank on the way down, the start of things to come for the next day....
Last campsite only a few miles away from Spey Bay, could almost smell the sea...
Makeshift car...
Last campfire...before the sea, if you're curious, dried milk powder causes this effect!
I think that's what you call "taking it all in"
Getting closer to the sea, nearly there, and you can see the landscape changing so much now
As we shored up on the coast, and we got the best weather we'd had all week
Spot of Rugby
Campfire on the beach, where we ended up sleeping, under the stars.....until the clouds came over, and it rained on us, waking us up for the sunrise, which wasn't a bad thing
Watching the sunset
There were Baynes' Brothers on the trip, so of course there were fireworks involved
Sunrise, such a lovely view
Shot of us all in Moden, near Lockerbie, weirdest place ever, well local - pictures not great either, but nevermind, you get the idea!
