Lake District Holiday

Scafell Pike

Me and Heather recently took a holiday (vacation for those of you in the US). We stopped off to visit our friends Martin and Jen in Sheffield, before heading on to the Lakes District, where we also met up with Giles and Justine later on in the week. Here are some photos of our trip. I will upload more as I organise them (trigger happy took around 750 - can't really put them all up!)

I've made a lot of these clickable thumbnails, mainly near the end, I will go through and sort it so they all are eventually, but haven't got the time at the moment.

Heather ready for some hiking. This is us arriving in Ambleside on the first day. Had a wander around the town, very nice. Worst weather we had.

This is where we had our lunch

Then drove towards Eskdale, unfortunately/fortunately - depending on how you look at it, we had to go through a pass, for those of you that are unaware what a pass is, it's a road that goes through mountains, when I say roads, in this particular instance, i mean it in the simplest form. Misty, and wet, was a bit dodgy!

Heather posing again, this time on a bridge. With a great landscape, we couldn't resist keep getting out and taking photos.
This is us at our camping pod in Boot, in Eskdale.
First evening there we went on a wander, cool little stream only a few minutes away

This is the oldest working mill in the country apparently

And so the addiction begins, first, we try the brown flavour. Click to find out all about Kendal Mint Cake

Us trying to get through the smallest gap in the wall ever

Right, this is what we were both here for, time to climb the highest peak in the whole of England - Scafell Pike. Unfortunately, as I took this picture, my camera flashed up that my battery was low, so had to resort to using my phone, and turning on my camera before the power would cut out again!

That's right, that's a plane flying by, we were higher up than a plane!!

These ridiculous people started about the same time, but got to the top about an hour later - do you know why? She was wearing plimsoles, and he lugged up a carrier bag, they also had a kid on the way up, guess he didn't make it?!

Stopped near the bottom to dunk our feet, felt very nice

View from the bottom:

Pub in Boot where we were staying, went there for a well deserved dinner and a few drinks after our long ol' hike up the mountain!

Next day on our way to Keswick, had to stop off to take photos....

We get to Keswick, and see a sign for the James Bond Muesum, how can you resist! Wasn't great, but worth a visit. At this point, I legally have to say that all the photos of the inside of the museum are courtesy of the James Bond Museum, Keswick...

Land Rover which Daniel Craig drove in Casino Royale

Bond car, with guns on the front!!

and then we crossed the road, and went to... The Pencil Museum!! We actually just stood outside and had our photo taken, and went into get a drink, it was really busy though - I guess pencils are more exciting than I first thought....

The biggest pencil in the world, got a sneaky picture of it, 25 foot in case you were wondering

Keswick town centre, very nice it was.

After seeing a postcard in the town centre, we then drove out around Derwent Water to look for this viewpoint. The bridge is called Ashness Bridge. A popular viewpoint, mainly because I guess it's high up, and from one side, you can see Derwent Water in the background.

Now I don't like to cheat my photos, but this one you could say is slightly. Something I wanted to try out. It's about 6 photos, all at different exposures, laid over the top of one another to create the "perfect" exposure.

This kid was a genius, he walked/crawled about 30-40 foot of this stretch of the river, up against the flow, up little waterfalls. Was crazy. I would've joined in, but I would've just have gotten in his way.

Derwent Water

The next day we met up with Giles and his housemate Justine and went on the Ravenglass Steam Railway.

When we reached Ravenglass, to be honest, not much to see, apart from this old Roman bath

Wh then scooted up towards Ullswater, to our last campsite in the valley right next to Helvellyn
Justine made this flag for Giles, celebrating the beauty that is Bungay

Then took a stroll down to Aira Force

It's MASSIVE!
Not as big as my gut though, what's going on there...

Coming out from the waterfall, the sun started to set, with Ullswater in the background

Our campsite
Some American looking chap
I believe this is Helvellyn, if not, then the beginnings of it.

Some kid next to our tent rounding up the sheep...
So the night before, Giles says what a great idea it would be to get up early in the morning, and go for a swim in Ullswater..... obviously we all declined, but encouraged him instead.

That looks cold!

Ullswater

Ullswater
A steamer similar to the one we're on

Driving home from the Lake District, driving through here, we were unaware of the view behind us until I looked in my rear view mirror, pretty cool, so pulled over and took a shot.

And there you go!
